Lindsey Vonn Shares Surgery Saved Her From Leg Amputation After Olympics Crash
Matt Miller is recovering after a near-fatal incident.
The ESPN NFL draft analyst shared June 23 that he was involved in a car accident last week while driving in Missouri that led to him being airlifted to a nearby hospital and undergoing a necessary limb amputation.
"As a result of the accident, I sustained significant injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs," Miller wrote in an X post. "I also underwent a life-saving amputation of my left arm. While I have a long road ahead, I'm focused on my recovery and taking things one day at a time."
The 42-year-old—who joined the sports broadcasting network in 2021, where he regularly appears on NFL Live, SportsCenter and Get Up!—also put a spotlight on the support he received amid this chapter.
"I'm deeply grateful for the exceptional care I have received, from the first responders to the doctors, nurses and medical staff," he explained. "I'm incredibly fortunate to be writing this."
"Thank you for the overwhelming support, prayers and kind messages," he continued. "They have meant so much to me and my family during this time."
Miller emphasized that he wouldn't let this setback end his career in sports journalism.
"I look forward to continuing my recovery," he concluded, "and getting back to ESPN to talk football, including what should be an exciting 2027 NFL Draft class."
Miller's 2023 Ford Bronco crossed the center of the highway June 17 at approximately 4 p.m. before hitting the driver's side of a semi-truck, which attempted to avoid the SUV, according to the Jasper County police report obtained by Fox-affiliate KOAM. Both vehicles ran off the south side of the highway after the truck initially attempted to overcorrect north.
