Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said the city administration plans to build 11 large-scale public housing towers in 2027 as part of efforts to address growing housing demand in the capital.
The decision was made after Pramono approved funding allocations for the projects during budget discussions held by the Jakarta provincial government.
"Earlier today, we held a budget meeting. During the discussion, I approved the construction of 11 new large-scale apartment towers next year," Pramono told reporters in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to Pramono, the development of public apartment towers, known locally as rumah susun (rusun), is one of the solutions to meet residents' housing needs amid limited land availability in the capital.
He pledged that access to the housing units would be managed through a transparent and open process for residents interested in either purchasing or renting them.
"The goal is to provide open and transparent access for anyone who wishes to own or rent a unit," he said.
Pramono noted that land in Jakarta has become increasingly scarce, making vertical housing a practical solution for urban residents.
He added that not all residents can afford to purchase landed houses in Jakarta, where property prices continue to rise.
"It is becoming increasingly difficult for people to own land in Jakarta unless they have sufficient financial means. That is why vertical housing is the key solution," Pramono said.
As part of its broader housing strategy, the Jakarta administration will continue to promote the development of vertical residential projects to expand access to affordable housing for residents.
