Jannik Sinner returned with a victory
on the grass of the Hurlingham Club in London Wednesday after
his shock collapse while on the brink of victory against world
number 56 Juan Manuel Cerundolo of Argentina in the last 16 of
the Paris Open on May 28.
The world No. 1 defeated Briton Cameron Norrie 6-3, 6-3, in an
exhibition match at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic, which is
a stepping stone to Wimbledon, starting next Monday.
The South Tyrolean, 24, who had been odds-on favourite at Roland
Garros and was one game away from beating Cerundolo before he
ran out of gas and suffered dizziness in the Paris heat, is also
favourite to retain his Wimbledon title due to the
injury-enforced absence of his great rival Carlos Alcaraz of
Spain.
Sinner had a barrage of tests at Milan's San Raffaele Hospital
last week and has been cleared as fit to compete in South-West
London, possibly wearing a cooling vest between games.
Sinner has four grand slam titles to the seven claimed by
23-year-old Alcaraz, who missed Paris and is missing Wimbledon
with a wrist injury.
