“Dungeons & Dragons” maker Wizards of the Coast has set the theme for the upcoming second installment of its “Dungeon Masters” TV series.
Beginning with its July 8 premiere on YouTube, the nine-episode second season of the Jasmine Bhullar-hosted Dungeons & Dragons actual-play show will feature “Arcana Unleashed,” a soon-to-be-released campaign set in D&D’s The Forgotten Realms.
Along with Bhullar (“DesiQuest,” “Dimension 20”) as the Dungeon Master, the new season will star recurring cast members Mayanna Berrin (“Dispatch,” “StoryQuest”), Christian Navarro (“13 Reasons Why,” “Forgotten Realms: Tears of Selune”), Neil Newbon (“Baldur’s Gate III”) and Devora Wilde (“Baldur’s Gate III”) as they play through a new D&D campaign.
Per Wizards’ description for the “Arcana Unleashed”-themed “Dungeon Masters” Arc 2: “Our heroes, magical agents of the Order of the Ninth Quill, are hurled into the lethal expanse of the Anauroch Desert: a shattered wasteland still radiating the catastrophic magic of Netheril’s fall. A fragile, shimmering barrier is all that stands between Faerûn and the arcane horrors buried beneath the dunes, and it’s failing. But the desert itself is anything but quiet. The Bringers of the Cosmic Dawn seek to tear the barrier down in pursuit of their own vision, while the Red Wizards of Thay maneuver in the shadows, hungry to seize the arcane power within. As if that were not enough, the desert itself seems intent on killing them. One problem: these kids are the absolute bottom of the barrel. Let’s meet The Misfits.”
For the “Arcana Unleashed” season, the cast’s characters (images featured below) will include Sailor, an Aasimar Warrior of the Mystic Arts Monk (Newbon); “Princess” Hobnip, a Goliath Arcane Archer Fighter (Wilde); Cadmus Pennypetal, a Human Transmuter Wizard (Navarro); and Sapphira Horayas, a High Elf Vestige Warlock (Berrin).
In the teaser for “Dungeon Masters” Arc 2, which readers can view via the video above, Bhullar introduces the new world to her cast.
The first season of “Dungeon Masters” launched in April on YouTube amid the height of popularity for D&D actual-play content, including “Critical Role” and Dropout’s “Dimension 20,” but differentiated itself by being the only series created by the official license holders for D&D. That first arc was based on “Ravenloft: The Horrors Within,” which released soon after “Dungeon Masters” bowed. “Arcana Unleashed” will be published in September, following the airing of this second season.
Wizards of the Coast has confirmed two more installments, Arcs 3 and 4, of “Dungeon Masters” will be released before the end of the year, with those themes to be announced closer to their debuts.
