A 61-year-old man died of suspected

heat stroke while working his vineyard in the province of

Piacenza on Wednesday, the first Italian fatality from the heat

wave that is baking much of Europe including Italy.

The had been working from the early morning till the

mid-afternoon in a vineyard in a small hamlet in the Nure

Valley, while the area was scorching hot.

His brother found him lying lifeless among the rows of vines

around 2:00 PM.

Emergency services arrived on the scene quickly but to no avail.

Further investigations into the exact cause of death are

underway by medical examiners.
