Opta supercomputer now picks Argentina to win World Cup

WASHINGTON, June 24. /TASS/. The Argentinian national football team is now the favorite to win 2026 FIFA World Cup as the world championship’s group stage is almost completed, according to data published by the Opta statistical platform supercomputer.

On June 10, the artificial web-platform predicted that ‘La Roja’ from Spain was the most likely national team to win this quadrennial global football championship.

However, according to the provided figures the possibility of Argentina winning is estimated at 15.46% while France is 2nd at 15.06% and Spain is third - 12.48%.

The top ten contenders, according to Opta statistical platform supercomputer, also included England (9.48%), Portugal (6.71%), Germany (6.60%), Norway (5.42%), Brazil (4.56%), the Netherlands (4.26%) and the United States (4.07%).

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States between June 11 and July 19. The matches are staged in 16 cities across the three countries. This is be the first FIFA World Cup featuring 48 teams instead of the previous 32-team format.
