Olivia Wilde Breaks Silence on Harry Styles Romance, Jason Sudeikis Split
Olivia Wilde isn’t worried about the rumors.
After years of speculation about drama on the set of Don’t Worry Darling, the film’s director finally addressed the long-standing rumor that she and Florence Pugh had a “screaming match” while filming the 2022 movie over Wilde’s alleged absence from set.
“I have never had a screaming match on my set,” the House alum told The Cut in an interview published June 24. “I was never not available on set. I wanted to be like, ‘None of this is true.’”
Though she waited nearly four years to set the record straight on rumors of feuds and behind-the-scenes strife, she’s now looking back on that time in her life.
And as Wilde—who dated Harry Styles for two years after meeting on Don’t Worry Darling—emphasized, her experience on the film and all that came with it “robbed me of my naïveté for sure.”
Luckily, she’s had peers to turn to—she previously revealed advice from Pamela Anderson—when it comes to navigating life in the public eye. And specifically, she highlighted what Butter costar Jennifer Garner once told her.
“She said it’s like you get cast in a soap opera by the public,” Wilde remembers. “And they assign you an obvious archetype: the damsel in distress, the good girl, the pretty girl.”
As for the role that the Booksmart director has taken on in recent years? She said, “I became the full-on villain. Like Cruella.”
But she has long refused to play into the mean girl role, dispelling rumors about tension on her set when they first began emerging.

"As for all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there, I mean, the internet feeds itself," Wilde explained during a September 2022 press conference to promote Don’t Worry Darling. "I don't feel the need to contribute. I think it's sufficiently well-nourished."
For her part, Pugh has firmly moved on from the experience, telling Vanity Fair in 2023 that she would not get into the “nitty-gritty details” on set.
After wrapping the film, Wilde took some time to reset and be with her kids Otis, 12, and Daisy, 9, whom she shares with ex Jason Sudeikis. And that break has allowed her to come back to work stronger than ever.
“If you can push through the moment you have previously identified as the worst possible thing that could happen to you, whether that is divorce or the internet hating you or whatever,” she continued to The Cut, “you are forged into something way better than you could have possibly imagined.”
And Wilde isn’t the only star who has had to address a rumored feud. Keep reading to see more…
