The Lexar ES5 Magnetic External 2TB SSD has dropped to $295 during Amazon Prime Day, saving shoppers 26% on a fast and durable portable drive.
Portable SSDs have become must-have accessories for power users, especially in an era when flagship smartphones can record movie-quality videos. The Lexar ES5 is one of the best because it combines fast storage speeds with a compact, durable design that feels tailor-made for modern workflows. It supports read and write speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s over USB-C, enabling the drive to record 4K Apple ProRes at 120Hz without slowdown.

On the back of the SSD is a magnet that can attach to smartphones compatible with the MagSafe standard, such as modern iPhones. This creates a clean setup that avoids hard drives dangling awkwardly from the mobile device during recording. Don't fret if you're an Android owner, because Lexar includes a special magnetic metal ring that lets the ES5 attach to non-Apple devices. It even supports Samsung Pro Video recordings for seamless usage with high-end Galaxy models.
Review: Lexar ES5
Security is a major aspect of the Lexar ES5. For starters, it is 256-bit AES encrypted, preventing bad actors from accessing your files if the drive is ever stolen. Lexar's device is rated IP65, meaning its internal components are fully protected against dust and can withstand splashes of water. What's more, it is drop-resistant up to three meters. The outside of the drive is covered in a soft silicone exterior to protect it from scratches and improve grip.
How I rated this deal
As per ZDNET's rating system, I grant this deal a 3/5. The Lexar ES5 SSD is a premium storage drive purpose-built for content creators, though anyone can enjoy it. If you're looking to save more money, there's also a 1TB option that's on sale for $185. However, I recommend the 2TB model instead, as I believe it provides the better value.
