The Yobe State Police Command has arrested eight suspects in connection with alleged theft, violent attack and drug-related offences in different parts of the state as part of its ongoing crime-fighting operations.
The command said the arrests were made during separate operations carried out by its divisions in Bursari, Damaturu and Nguru local government areas.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, adding that the operations led to the recovery of stolen items, including a motorcycle, and other exhibits.
According to the statement, operatives attached to Garin Alkali Division arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Musa Musa, for allegedly stealing renovation materials belonging to Daskum Primary School in Bursari Local Government Area.
The police said the suspect was intercepted along the Gashua Road while allegedly conveying stolen building materials, including iron rods, from the school.
A black TVS motorcycle suspected to have been used in the commission of the offence was also recovered, while another suspect identified only as Alhaji reportedly escaped and is being tracked by the police.
The command said the suspect had been charged to court, while efforts were ongoing to arrest other persons connected to the case.
In a separate incident, police operatives from A Division, Damaturu, arrested two youths, Adam Maigaimu, 20, and Mohammed Umar, 18, following a violent confrontation involving an axe.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly engaged in a fight that resulted in “serious injuries.”
The police further alleged that the two suspects were involved in the theft of a ram belonging to a complainant and later sold it for personal gain.
Similarly, operatives of the Nguru Division conducted a raid on a suspected criminal hideout at Anguwar Yan Rake, where five suspects were arrested.
