Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is ready to enter a new phase of implementing a credible, transparent, and impactful carbon market by strengthening forestry sector governance, as stated by Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni.
"Indonesia is no longer merely designing policies; it has advanced significantly to the stage of practical implementation on the ground," he remarked at the Coalition Senior Representatives Meeting held on the sidelines of London Climate Action Week in London, as quoted from a statement on Thursday.
According to him, Indonesia's leadership in the forestry sector is demonstrated by the issuance of Ministerial Regulations Number 6 of 2026 and Number 7 of 2026, as derivatives from Presidential Regulation Number 110 of 2025.
These regulations provide a strong legal foundation to ensure governance, environmental integrity, and regulatory certainty for sustainable investors, he noted.
As concrete evidence of this infrastructure's readiness, the ministry is scheduled to hold a Ministerial Approval ceremony and the issuance of massive forestry sector carbon credits, reaching over 30 million tons of CO2e, on July 6, 2026.
This major step will also be followed by the launch of the Carbon Unit Registration System (SRUK) on July 9, 2026, as the main infrastructure for the national carbon market.
"This will strengthen transparency, accountability, and market confidence, while providing greater certainty for project developers and global investors," the minister conveyed.
Coinciding with the launch, Antoni announced that several forestry carbon projects in Indonesia will be registered under internationally recognized standards.
He said the move demonstrates Indonesia's readiness to harness the vast potential of nature-based solutions, including tropical forests, peatlands, and mangroves, while also exploring emerging technologies such as biochar and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS).
Furthermore, he also called on the international community to undertake three collective actions.
The approach aims to send a strong market signal on the importance of high-integrity carbon credits, encourage their adoption in corporate climate strategies, and strengthen international cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
"Through equal collaboration and mutual respect for national priorities, Indonesia declares readiness to synergize with all global partners for a larger, stronger, and more trustworthy global carbon market ecosystem," Antoni pointed out.
