MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck off the coast of Sarangani town on Thursday noon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
In its earthquake bulletin, Phivolcs said the epicenter of the earthquake was located west of Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental at 12:03 p.m. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 10 kilometers.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was an aftershock of the magnitude 7.8 tremor that struck off Sarangani on June 8.

The agency added that more aftershocks are expected in the coming days.
Reported intensity II was raised over General Santos City while instrumental intensities were recorded over the following areas:
Intensity III: General Santos City; Maasim, Malapatan, and Kiamba, Sarangani; T’Boli, South Cotabato
Intensity II: Malitbog, Bukidnon; Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat; Tupi, South Cotabato; Maitum and Malungon, Sarangani
Intensity I: Suralla, Tampakan, and Koronadal City, South Cotabato; Digos City, Davao del Sur/dp

HELP MINDANAO EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
The Inquirer Foundation is calling for support for communities devastated by the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao.
In partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, the foundation is amplifying appeals for food, clean water and other critical assistance for affected families.
Donors may send contributions directly to the Philippine Red Cross through its official transfer channels, the complete list is available on the PRC’s Facebook page.
The Philippine Red Cross has activated its emergency fund campaign and deployed teams on the ground to provide medical services, distribute relief goods and extend psychosocial support to affected families.
