
CALASIAO, Pangasinan – Sixteen individuals from the Ilocos Region have surrendered to authorities and disengaged from the local communist movement.
According to Police Regional Office 1 (PRO 1), nine were from communist front organizations, six were affiliated with groups linked to the New People’s Army, and another was a member of an underground mass organization.
The report said the surrender of the 16 was achieved through sustained police operations, community engagement, and the support of various stakeholders.

Brig. Gen. Jovencio S. Badua Jr., PRO 1 acting director, said the continued increase in surrenders and withdrawals of support reflects growing public trust in government efforts and law enforcement initiatives.
“We continue to see individuals choosing to leave behind groups that promote violence and deception in favor of lawful and productive participation in society,” Badua said in a statement.
“This reflects the effectiveness of our sustained whole-of-nation approach, where law enforcement, local stakeholders, and communities work together to achieve lasting peace and stability in Region 1,” he added./coa
