Italy is checking to see if any

Italians have been hit by the devastating earthquakes that have

struck Venezuela, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio

Tajani said on Thursday.

"Dozens and dozens of buildings have collapsed," Tajani told

RaiNews24 via telephone.

"We hope no Italians are involved but, with their being so many

of our compatriots living in Venezuela, including dual

nationals, it is possible that someone could be trapped (in the

rubble).

"So our crisis unit is operational.

"We've been operational since last night and we're trying to

provide the maximum support possible to Italian families with

relatives in Venezuela".
