The latest in a series of earthquakes
gave a nasty awakening to people living in the area of the Campi
Flegrei volcanic caldera near Naples on Thursday.
The 3.6-magnitude earthquake was recorded by seismographs at
4:17 a.m. at a depth of 3 km, with an epicentre 2 km from the
town of Pozzuoli and it could also be felt by people living in
Naples, especially those with flats on the upper floors of
buildings.
There have been no reports of anyone being injured or of major
damage to property so far.
The new quake comes 24 hours after a series of earthquakes hit
the same area, with the strongest event measuring magnitude 3.0.
The Campi Flegrei area, also known the Phlegrean Fields in
English, is currently being affected by bradyseism, or ground
uplift, and there have been a series of earthquakes over the
last three years.
