Malta’s waters are a little cleaner thanks to another major clean-up by Coast Is Clear Foundation.
The organisation announced that it removed 494 kilograms of marine debris and litter from the sea during its latest operation.
Yesterday, the team headed to Fomm ir-Riħ, where volunteers recovered discarded fishing lines, fishing nets, metal and plastic waste from the seabed.
Coast Is Clear also revealed that, through an expedition funded by the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, it has begun the challenging task of recovering a 2,000-kilogram fish farm cage, along with ropes and nets, from Malta’s west coast.
The foundation regularly organises clean-ups around the Maltese Islands, including operations in Comino, Marsaxlokk and Ġnejna, removing marine litter while helping to protect local ecosystems and wildlife.
Another huge effort by the team, and another reminder of just how much work goes into keeping Malta’s coastline clean.
Well done to everyone involved.
