Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of National Development Planning, Rachmat Pambudy, stated that Indonesia has made considerable progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) compared to many other countries.
"Indonesia's SDG achievement is relatively strong. While the global average remains below 20 percent, Indonesia has surpassed 60 percent. We must strengthen the role of SDGs Centers at universities to ensure our progress continues beyond this level," he said at the SDGs Center Conference 2026 in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to him, Indonesia's SDGs are considered a key development milestone for achieving Golden Indonesia 2045.
He then outlined the planning, which includes strengthening the foundations of economic transformation, human resources, and national competitiveness from 2022 onward, given Indonesia's position as an upper-middle-income country.
Pambudy conveyed that the next step is to achieve the 2030 SDGs targets, which would mark a new milestone in the country's development transformation.
He emphasized that Indonesia must then escape the middle-income trap by 2041 through an economic transformation driven by innovation, productivity, and value creation to realize the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
"The year 2045 is only 19 years away. It is a critical period because if we fail to address today's challenges, including inequality, poverty, hunger, and access to clean water, achieving future SDG targets will become increasingly difficult," he remarked.
He added that meeting those targets must therefore be a key milestone, particularly in fulfilling basic needs that require immediate attention.
Pambudy informed that to date, only 18 percent of the SDG targets are on track based on the global aggregate. Without transformative efforts, the achievement of the SDGs is estimated to be delayed by 32 years.
He stated that Indonesia has achieved 62.7 percent of its SDG targets, equivalent to 153 of the 244 indicators. However, 59 indicators, or 24.2 percent, still require accelerated efforts to get back on track.
In addition, data for 40 indicators remain unavailable as of 2024, highlighting the need to strengthen data collection and reporting.
"In this regard, today's meeting of SDGs Centers at universities is expected to reinforce efforts to achieve and accelerate the attainment of the SDGs by 2030," the minister remarked.
