Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Gamsunoro oil tanker owned by PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) had successfully crossed the critical point of Strait of Hormuz safely due to a collaborative corporate emergency strategy and diplomatic efforts.
The ship successfully crossed on Wednesday (June 24) at 8:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time after being delayed since early March 2026 due to the conflict between the United States and Iran.
Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS, Vega Pita, said in a statement on Thursday that the decision to allow the Gamsunoro to pass the area was taken following a month-long risk assessment process and intensive coordination with the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
"We thank the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, for their support thus far," Vega noted.
According to her, the timing and route for crossing the Strait of Hormuz were determined through rigorous discussion and risk assessment.
"We noted dozens of mandatory requirements, ranging from insurance, technical and operational aspects, security, to crew readiness, which is why we decided the ship could safely depart from the Arabian Gulf," she added.
After a 16-hour journey, the tanker departed from the Arabian Gulf on Wednesday local time.
Gamsunoro traveled at a speed of 7.5 knots and arrived at the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz at around 1:00 p.m. local time. Four hours later, the ship was declared successfully transited through the strait and reached a designated safe point.
Vega said the ship was monitored around the clock throughout the voyage, where the crew also conducted coordination with the onshore team on standby at the PIS crisis center to ensure the safety of the voyage.
Gamsunoro's successful passage through the Strait of Hormuz is considered part of PIS' efforts to maintain shipping operations amidst global geopolitical uncertainty, particularly in one of the world's most strategic energy distribution routes.
Another PIS fleet in the Arabian Gulf, the VLCC Pertamina Pride, is currently preparing to depart, continuing to evaluate security developments, traffic conditions, congestion, and other risks, while taking international recommendations into account.
