A Portuguese psychologist has been detained at an airport in Indonesia after trying to board a flight with 50 rounds of ammunition in her rucksack.
The ammo was detected during a routine security check as the woman attempted to board a flight to Abu Dhabi.
According to Lusa, the operator monitoring x-ray equipment at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport “detected suspicious objects inside the rucksack, which led to a manual inspection.”
The Bali Times reports that during initial questioning, the woman admitted that the ammunition was hers, but she said she had no idea it was still inside her rucksack.
Authorities are thus “investigating the origin of the ammunition, and how it came to be in the passenger’s luggage”, says the news site.
“We are still establishing the origin of the evidence and await the results of further tests,” authorities added.
Here, the ministry of foreign affairs has confirmed that it is aware of the arrest, and “providing the necessary consular support”.
“The ministry of foreign affairs is aware of the situation involving a Portuguese national at Bali airport,” and that it “has been providing the necessary consular support through the Portuguese Embassy in Jakarta”, said a brief statement.
