Lionel Richie had to slow down during his latest onstage appearance.
The "All Night Long" singer cut short the opening night of his Sing a Song All Night Long Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire after experiencing a dizzy spell during his June 24 performance in St. Paul, Minnesota.
"What I have learned from my years of being in the business, when you're feeling dizzy, sit your ass down," Richie told the audience, as seen in clips shared to social media, after singing the ninth song of his set. "When you are feeling strange about yourself, sit your ass down."
The 77-year-old wasn't thrilled about having to unexpectedly take a seat onstage at the Grand Casino Arena.
"I want you to know that's the first time in the history of 'Dancing on the Ceiling' I've done it sitting down," he emphasized, before sardonically adding, "It's a bad sign. That's a bad sign, y'all."
He continued forward with The Commodores' 1978 song "Three Times a Lady" while sitting at a grand piano before leaving the stage and his band following suit 15 minutes later.
Shortly after the pause, saxophonist Dino Soldo confirmed that Richie wouldn't be returning to finish the show.
"Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well," he explained. "He won't be able to continue with the show."
"Thank you for your patience and your understanding," Soldo concluded. "This has been amazing. Safe travels home for you. Thank you so much."

Earth, Wind & Fire drummer John Paris told the Minnesota Star Tribune that the singer didn't appear to have any health concerns before taking the stage. However, he noted, "He's a little dehydrated."
For his part, Richie—dad to daughter Nicole Richie, 44, with ex-girlfriend Karen Moss, as well as Miles Richie, 32, and Sofia Richie, 27, with ex-wife Diane Alexander—had been amped for the concert, expressing his excitement on social media hours before.
"Opening night," he captioned the June 24 Instagram post. "Rehearsals. Sound check. Showtime tonight. Saint Paul, you're up!!!"
