One of Malta’s most distinctive cultural festivals is returning this summer.
The Rooftop Series Summer Festival is back for its 2026 edition, transforming the Catholic Institute Rooftop in Floriana into an open-air venue for a programme of music, opera and theatre between 30th June and 13th September.
Known for combining local talent with international collaborations, the festival has become a fixture on Malta’s cultural calendar, offering audiences the chance to experience live performances in one of the island’s most atmospheric settings.
The season opens on 30th June with Kutrumbajsa, a specially curated concert by singer-songwriter Michael Azzopardi. Joined by guest artists Cher Camilleri, Joon and trumpeter Alex Bezzina, Azzopardi will present an intimate performance created exclusively for the festival.
On 16th July, emerging trio Ocelot will take to the stage alongside vocalist Louisa Buhagiar, saxophonist Sarah Sultana and keyboardist Chris Gatt for an evening blending contemporary jazz, hip-hop rhythms and Latin influences.

The programme continues on 19th August with Opera Nova Project: A Little Night Music, led by Gillian Zammit and Denise Mulholland. The performance will bring together opera and musical theatre, featuring works ranging from Bizet to Bernstein and showcasing some of Malta’s most promising classical voices.
Later that month, on 27th August, audiences can experience The Music Room, a collaboration between Maltese sound artists parpeduni and Barcelona-based ensemble FLAN. Combining influences from ambient music, bolero, tango and jazz, the project explores shared Mediterranean identities through sound and performance.
Closing the festival on 13th September will be a new adaptation of Francis Ebejer’s landmark play Il-Ħadd fuq il-Bejt. Refashioned by actor Ron Briffa and conceived by Artistic Director Annalisa Schembri, the production revisits one of the most important works in modern Maltese theatre through a contemporary lens.
Set against panoramic views and summer sunsets, the Rooftop Series has built a reputation for creating meaningful encounters between audiences and artists. Alongside the main programme, visitors can also enjoy fringe events, masterclasses and artisanal food offerings throughout the season.
For culture lovers, it’s an opportunity to discover a diverse range of performances in a uniquely intimate setting. For Malta’s creative community, it’s another celebration of artistic collaboration, cultural exchange and local talent.
