Intermarché has strengthened its presence in the Algarve with the opening of a new supermarket in Algoz, following a €4 million investment that has created 45 jobs and expanded retail services in the municipality of Silves.
The new store, operated by the retail brand of Grupo Mosqueteiros, has a commercial area of 1,100 square metres and is designed to serve both local residents and the growing number of visitors to the region.
The supermarket offers a wide range of food and non-food products, alongside services aimed at making everyday shopping more convenient. These include a takeaway counter, ready-to-eat meals, an in-store bakery and pastry section, a fuel station and an ATM.
According to the company, the investment reflects its continued commitment to local communities through job creation, economic development and neighbourhood retailing.
“The opening of this store represents the completion of a very important project for us and for the local community,” said Raúl Matos, manager of the new Intermarché in Algoz.
“We want to become a trusted local reference, offering customers a complete shopping experience based on quality products, competitive prices and personalised service. It is also a great source of satisfaction to contribute to job creation and the economic development of the region.”
The new outlet joins Intermarché’s nationwide network of 269 stores, reinforcing the company’s expansion strategy in Portugal.
The retailer operates under a model based on independent entrepreneurs, with each store managed by local business owners while benefiting from the purchasing power and support of the wider Grupo Mosqueteiros network.
This year also marks the group’s 35th anniversary in Portugal, a milestone it says reflects more than three decades of sustained growth, investment and support for local economies.
