Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism is collaborating with the Ministry of Trade, the Indonesian Retail and Tenant Association (HIPPINDO), and the Indonesian Shopping Center Association (APPBI) to boost domestic consumption and tourist trips.
Under the collaboration, the ministry has launched the BINA (Shopping in Indonesia Movement) Holiday & Back to School 2026 program, which offers up to 50 percent discounts to the public throughout the school break.
Tourism Ministry Spokesperson Nia Niscaya explained in a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday that the program is part of the ministry's "Liburan Cara Baru #DiIndonesiaAja" campaign.
Shopping tourism, she said, can help broaden the economic impact of the tourism sector by supporting not only shopping centers, but also retailers, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), culinary businesses, and the creative economy across various destinations.
"When we go shopping, the benefits extend beyond the tourism sector to retail and MSMEs. Whenever Indonesians visit a place, they always look for local food and products," Nia said.
The BINA Holiday & Back to School 2026 program involves 800 brands, approximately 80,000 outlets, and 414 shopping centers across 24 provinces.
In addition to offering various discounts, the program features a wide range of activities expected to boost traffic to shopping centers during the holiday season.
Nia said the #DiIndonesiaAja campaign encourages people to travel domestically by exploring destinations and activities that are closer to home, more accessible, and affordable.
She further said that an increase in domestic tourist trips is also expected to have a wider economic impact on local businesses across regions.
"We aim to increase domestic travel while supporting local economic growth through various collaborative initiatives," she remarked.
