The Instrumental use of religious
faith creates satrapies nourished by death, President Sergio
Mattarella said Thursday.
"The profession of faith, alongside a personal and intimate
dimension, specific to every human being, which I personally
sense, also expresses a plural, collective character, capable of
generating peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and respect for
others," he said.
"It is an experience that daily builds peaceful relationships
and connections, which are opposed to satrapies that instead
fabricate cruel, morally distorted narratives nourished by war
and death.
"The instrumental use of faith, repeatedly denounced by
religious leaders, is a deception that poisons and kills the
soul."
Mattarella was speaking in the Chamber of Deputies for the
celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the first session of the
Constituent Assembly.
