Project Healthy Minds, the tech-focused mental health nonprofit, is adding a prominent media executive to its board of directors.
Rich Kleiman, the CEO and co-founder of Boardroom and 35V, will join the organization’s board and help it expand its reach.
Kleiman joins a board that already includes NBC Today co-host Carson Daly, Universal Music publishing CEO Jody Gerson, media adviser Michael Kassan, and Indianapolis Colts co-owner Kalen Jackson.
As it happens, Kleiman’s own career has spanned music, media, tech and sports, having helped launch Roc Nation Sports after working as a music manager, and co-founding Boardroom and 25V with longtime collaborator and NBA superstar Kevin Durant. He’s also spoken candidly about his own experience with mental wellness.
Boardroom has moved aggressively in the media space, developing video and audio programming as well as a membership model.
Project Healthy Minds, meanwhile, launched in 2020 backed by a number of Hollywood power players. The organization is led by Phil Schermer. Last year the organization honored Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at its annual gala.
“Joining the Project Healthy Minds Board is one of the most meaningful moments of my career,” said Kleiman in a statement. “I’ve spent my life aware of the importance of mental health. I watched challenges with it derail my mother’s life, and that experience impacted me greatly as a result. It has also become the greatest strength in my life to be able to utilize mental health resources myself and to help others by talking about my experiences.”
He added: “Once I got to know Phil and understand the mission of the organization, I knew this was right for me. Phil is a special leader, and this is a very important and necessary platform.”
“Rich Kleiman has an uncanny ability to see what’s next and to back the right people, ideas, and startups right before they break through,” added Phil Schermer, the founder and CEO of Project Healthy Minds. “Rich is an icon who spent his career at the intersection of sports, culture, and business, and he understands better than anyone how powerful those platforms can be for shifting public conversation. The fact that Rich sees Project Healthy Minds as one of those breakthrough moments is a testament to how far we’ve come, and I’m deeply grateful to have him bringing his talents to accelerate our work in this exciting next chapter.”
