MANILA, Philippines — Police investigators are looking into whether an alleged grudge stemming from a “love quarrel” led to the killing of a new graduate fresh off his commencement rites in Pantukan town, Davao de Oro.
“So far, we have a person of interest already. But, we cannot divulge because of the ongoing hot pursuit operation,” Pantukan police chief Lt. Col. Irish Parangan said in an interview on DZMM on Thursday night.
“He (the victim) specifically said that there was a love quarrel by their ex that grew into a grudge that led to this event,” Parangan noted.

The victim was about to board a minivan with his family just after the graduation ceremony at the Kolehiyo ng Pantukan on Thursday afternoon when the suspects drove by in another minivan and shot him twice in the shoulder and once each in the hand and lower extremities.

Parangan noted that the police are looking into whether the suspects had been hired.
“He (victim) said somebody had already been following him yesterday. He lives in the neighboring municipality,” the town police chief explained.
“His brother had previously been killed in a shooting incident, also. He was mistakenly identified as the target, who is our victim now. So, when the suspects saw an opportunity at our victim’s graduation, it seems that’s when they moved on him,” he added. /cb
