A 79 year old woman was rescued after getting into difficulty while swimming at the Blue Lagoon in Comino earlier today, regaining consciousness following prolonged CPR by lifeguards and emergency responders.
Lovin Malta spoke to police who informed us that the alarm was raised at around 12.50pm when the woman, a tourist, was found in distress in the water. A lifeguard pulled her ashore and immediately began CPR before members of the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps (ERRC) continued resuscitation efforts after she stopped breathing a second time.
The woman eventually resumed breathing and was transported by boat to Mġarr Harbour, where a Gozo General Hospital ambulance was waiting to take her for further treatment. By the time she reached the harbour, she had regained consciousness.
The ERRC deployed a second rescue boat to continue monitoring swimmers at the Blue Lagoon while the emergency response was underway.
No further update on the woman’s condition was available.
