Russia hopes US shares biolabs findings with public — diplomat

MOSCOW, June 25. /TASS/. Russia hopes that an investigation into the funding of secret US biological laboratories abroad will be completed, and the findings shared with the public, the Russian foreign ministry’s official spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said.

"We hope that the US authorities will be able to complete their investigation regarding the funding of biological research outside the boundaries of their national territory and will have the courage to share it with the public," she said.

"We also hope that these statements will be followed by concrete steps, and, in particular, that a conclusion will be drawn that such situations are unacceptable: one country is financing biological research with a military dimension on the territory of another, whose authorities have no access to the research on its territory, and sometimes even without this sovereign country’s knowledge; while, at the same time, this research implies serious public health hazards for the civilian population and, naturally, affects the neighboring countries, too," the diplomat added.

In her words, the Russian side continues "to persuade foreign partners all over the world that national security needs to be exercised when it comes to control over research conducted on their territories.".
