Roman singer-songwriter Noemi on
Thursday remembered a 24-year-old man who was shot dead by his
63-year-old father near Lucca in Tuscany Wednesday reportedly
because the older man could not accept his son being gay.
Mirko Moriconi, who was killed by his father Piero along with
his 51-year-old mother Kety Andreoni after recently posting it
was tough to know that a father wanted his son dead rather than
gay, was an amateur singer who had taped himself singing some of
Noemi's songs.
Commenting on the incident at Pieve di Camaiore on the north
Tuscan coast, Noemi said on Instagram:
"I saw the videos where you sang my songs too, your love for
music, your dream of being free, and the pride of being
yourself.
"My thoughts go out to you, Mirko, and to your mother Kety, who
always supported you and gave you all the love you deserved.
"We cannot be killed in 2026 for who we choose to love. This is
unacceptable and a terrible pain."
Piero Moriconi told a prosecutor Thursday that he had merely
been concerned about Mirko's sexuality and that his son was an
addict who was always demanding money.
He said "We argued about this and I shot him and my wife".
"He was violent, he threatened me, he always asked for money, he
did it again yesterday, we argued about this and I shot him and
my wife.
"Mirko had drug and alcohol problems. He was unmanageable,"
Piero Moriconi told prosecutor Elena Leone.
The man, represented by lawyer Giacomo Fabbri, said only that he
was "concerned" about his son's homosexuality.
"I had to keep the money hidden at home," he said. "And my wife
wanted to leave and leave me with him."
