Jakarta (ANTARA) - Around 200 digital platforms operating in Indonesia have submitted self-assessment reports regarding their child safety risk profiles to the government, Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid announced here on Thursday (June 25).
The filings are mandated under Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection, locally known as PP Tunas.
The complying entities span various digital sectors, including e-commerce, gaming and entertainment sectors, and include major players such as Netflix, ChatGPT, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), Shopee, Tokopedia and Lazada.
The ministry is currently evaluating these self-assessments to verify and categorize each platform's actual threat level to child safety. Once the review is complete, the ministry plans to disclose the official risk profiles to the general public to ensure total transparency.
"We are currently reviewing the files from all submitted platforms to determine whether they are high risk or not,” Minister Meutya stated.
She further explained that the government is adopting a risk-based regulatory framework aimed at encouraging technology companies to fundamentally improve their practices and create a safer digital ecosystem for children.
“We are not just restricting children's access; we want to see changes in platform behavior. That is why we are implementing risk-based regulations,” she emphasized.
The regulatory framework has already prompted significant enforcement actions by major global technology companies.
According to ministry data, short-video platform TikTok had deactivated 4.1 million child accounts as of June 2026, while video-sharing platform YouTube had removed 600,000 child accounts by May 2026.
Meutya urged all remaining digital platforms that have yet to submit their compliance reports and child account governance policies to immediately fulfill their statutory obligations under the new regulation.
“We will give them time, but we will also continue to monitor compliance and enforce the law against those who fail to submit their reports,” the minister stressed.
