The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Kabi, has urged the chairman of Kuje Area Council, Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo, to prioritise workers’ welfare by clearing outstanding salary arrears and other staff entitlements.
Kabi made the appeal during a meeting between the council chairman and staff of the council at the council secretariat.
He said prompt payment of salaries, implementation of workers’ entitlements, capacity building and labour-friendly policies would enhance productivity and promote industrial harmony.
“In the same spirit, we urge the council chairman to ensure the payment of outstanding staff arrears and entitlements,” he said.
According to him, clearing the backlog of arrears would boost staff morale, strengthen trust in the administration and sustain industrial peace within the council.
Kabi assured the chairman of the union’s commitment to promoting peace, dialogue and mutual respect in labour-management relations.
He also advised the chairman not to allow political differences to undermine justice and fairness, while urging workers to remain dedicated and committed to their duties.
Earlier, Shekwolo said the meeting was convened to interact with staff and discuss challenges affecting their performance and welfare.
He noted that meaningful development could only be achieved when workers were carried along in policy formulation and implementation.
The chairman said his administration was committed to fostering industrial harmony through collaboration with labour unions and ensuring improved staff welfare.
He assured workers that their welfare would receive the attention it deserves under his administration.
Also speaking, the Kuje NULGE Chairman, Comrade Nimroyd Koce, pledged the support of council workers to the new administration.
He commended the chairman’s early efforts in addressing key issues, particularly waste management, environmental sanitation and municipal services.
Koce also praised Shekwolo for engaging directly with staff and assured him of the union’s cooperation in advancing development across the council.
