The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has arrested two suspects for alleged criminal conspiracy and vandalism.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Monica Ojobi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja.
Ojobi said operatives of the command’s Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) unit arrested the suspects following credible intelligence reports.
She said the suspects were apprehended in Chika, in the Lugbe area of the FCT, while allegedly vandalising electrical cables.
According to her, the two male suspects, aged 35 and 25, were arrested with exhibits including a cutting saw and armoured cables.
She added that the suspects were undergoing further investigation and would be prosecuted if found culpable. Ojobi quoted the FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr Olusola Odumosu, as reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure in the territory. (NAN)
According to her, Odumosu decried the persistent destruction of public infrastructure provided by the Federal Government for the benefit of residents.
“It is disheartening that in this day and age, some people are still bent on taking us backwards. The money the government spends replacing these national assets could have been channelled into other developmental projects,” he said.
The commandant noted that the vandalism of electrical cables contributes to recurring power outages and negatively affects the livelihoods of many residents.
“It is imperative that we remain vigilant, watch out for these criminals and report them promptly to security agencies.
“It is up to all of us to fight vandalism to a standstill in the Federal Capital Territory,” he added.
Odumosu urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest NSCDC office or through the command’s emergency lines. (NAN)
