Nearly 50 people were taken to Mater Dei Hospital on Thursday evening after falling ill following a work event in St Julian’s.
The group is understood to have become unwell after eating food served during the event, with all those affected believed to have attended the same function.
Four people are expected to remain in hospital overnight for observation, while the condition of the remaining patients is not believed to be serious.
The large number of patients arriving at the Emergency Department placed additional pressure on hospital services, with emergency responders transporting those affected by ambulance.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with the Food Safety Authority confirming that it immediately launched an investigation into the food establishment concerned after being informed of the admissions by the Superintendent of Public Health.
