Malta’s National Veterinary Emergency Clinic has already treated around 1,500 animals since opening earlier this year, highlighting the growing demand for after-hours emergency care for pets.
Launched in January, the National Veterinary Emergency Service was introduced to ensure pets can receive urgent medical attention outside normal clinic opening hours.
Located in Fgura, the clinic operates from 8pm to 8am every day, while remaining open throughout Sundays and public holidays. Pet owners are encouraged to first call the national veterinary emergency helpline on 153 (Extension 22), where trained operators can assess the situation, offer advice and direct them to the most appropriate veterinary service.
The wider national service also includes a government-funded support scheme that reimburses emergency consultations for eligible cases carried out at participating private veterinary clinics.
