The bureau explained that an earthquake swarm is “a series of earthquakes that are closely clustered in space and time, without a clearly defined mainshock-aftershock pattern.”
It added that swarms “may persist for days, weeks, or, in some cases, even longer” and may or may not lead to stronger earthquakes.
Nevertheless, the institute advised residents to practice the following precautionary measures:
Be vigilant and practice earthquake preparedness.
Know the safest and fastest route to the evacuation area.
Prepare an emergency supply kit.
Do the “duck, cover and hold” during an earthquake.
It also reminded coastal communities of the natural signs of a tsunami such as a strong and long-lasting earthquake, unusual sea behavior, and loud roaring sound from the ocean.

“If you observe any of these signs, immediately move to higher ground,” Phivolcs said. /apl
