Elderly Woman At Risk Of Dying After Falling Into Shaft In Kerċem

A 72-year-old woman is at risk of dying after falling one storey into a shaft at a residence in Kerċem, Gozo.

Police said they were alerted to the incident at around 5pm yesterday, after assistance was requested at a home in Triq Ta’ Berrini.

Preliminary investigations found that the Kerċem resident had fallen the height of one floor into a shaft.

Members of the Civil Protection Department, together with a medical team, were called to the scene, while an ambulance transported the woman to Gozo General Hospital for treatment.

She was later certified to be suffering from serious injuries.

Magistrate Jean Paul Grech has been informed of the case and opened a magisterial inquiry, while police investigations remain ongoing.
