Gozo Channel has issued a competitive call for tenders to lease a fourth ferry as part of efforts to strengthen the ferry service between Malta and Gozo.
The tender, published through the Ministry for Gozo and Gozo Channel Operations Ltd, seeks to lease an additional vessel under a two-year time charter agreement.
According to the ministry, the extra ferry is intended to reinforce the existing fleet, helping to provide a more reliable, efficient and resilient service between Ċirkewwa and Mġarr.
The fourth vessel is also expected to help meet growing demand for both passenger and vehicle transport while maintaining high standards of service, reliability and frequency on the route.
The contract will initially run for two years, with bids to be evaluated using the best balance between price and quality to encourage a wide range of operators to participate.
The ministry said the initiative forms part of its ongoing commitment to improving Gozo’s connectivity, describing the ferry link as essential for mobility, economic activity and the quality of life of residents and businesses on the island.
