Antitrust opens probe into price increase for Microsoft 365 subscription service

Italy's Antitrust Authority on Friday

opened a probe into the price increase for the Microsoft 365

subscription service.

The authority said it has launched an investigation into

Microsoft Ireland Operations Ltd. and Microsoft S.r.l. for

unfair commercial practices related to information about the

increased price for subscriptions to the Microsoft 365 service.

The Antitrust Authority said in a statement that this

information was presented to consumers in a fragmented manner,

without adequately highlighting that "Microsoft 365" was

integrated with the "Copilot" and "Designer" artificial

intelligence services.

Furthermore, consumers were allegedly forced to choose a new

subscription plan with a higher price, as a default option and

subject to the right of withdrawal.
