Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned energy company PT Pertamina is closely monitoring one of its giant oil tankers, Pertamina Pride, which remains stuck in the Strait of Hormuz.
Mochamad Iriawan, President Commissioner of Pertamina, stated that the company is using real-time tracking to monitor the very large crude carrier (VLCC) Pertamina Pride, which is operated by its shipping subsidiary, PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS).
"The Pertamina Pride is now in the Arabian Gulf, preparing to navigate the area while we continuously evaluate security developments and international safety recommendations," Iriawan said here on Friday.
According to PIS, the crew of the ship is waiting for optimal departure conditions. The vessel's management is closely tracking maritime traffic, bottlenecks, and surrounding security hazards in the crucial chokepoint before moving forward.
To keep the ship and its crew safe, a special emergency team is watching the situation 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
They are working closely with Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Iran.
"We hope the Pertamina Pride can leave the area soon and sail back to Indonesia,” Iriawan added.
While the Pertamina Pride is still waiting, another Pertamina ship successfully crossed the critical point of the Strait of Hormuz safely on Wednesday, June 24, local time.
The Gamsunoro oil tanker departed from the Arabian Gulf and arrived at the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz at around 1:00 p.m. local time.
Four hours later, the ship was declared to have successfully transited through the strait and reached a designated safe point.
Iriawan emphasized that safely guiding vessels through the Strait of Hormuz is a key part of PIS's broader strategy to keep domestic energy supply lines running smoothly, even as geopolitical instability clouds major global distribution chokepoints.
