MANILA, Philippines — A knife and a revolver were recovered by the police, allegedly from a Grade 8 student and a Grade 10 student in an Aparri school on Friday morning, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
The weapons were discovered when cops from the Cagayan Provincial Mobile Force Company, in coordination with the school principal, conducted an inspection of the students’ backpacks, according to the PNP in a statement.
“Initial information indicated that the incident may have stemmed from class-cutting and a personal grudge,” the police noted, without providing further details.

“Both minors were immediately turned over to the proper authorities, with appropriate intervention undertaken in accordance with existing laws and child protection protocols,” it added.
This came after the PNP said it would be coordinating with the Department of Education and school administrators as part of safety measures following the fatal shooting at a Tacloban City high school.
“Our objective is not simply to recover prohibited items but to prevent harm and guide our young people toward better choices,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in the statement.
“We will continue working closely with schools and our partners to ensure that every learner can study in a safe and secure environment,” he added. /apl
