Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB) arrested Beijing fugitive Zheng Rongjing upon his arrival at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday (June 25) over an international online fraud case.
"In order to eradicate online fraud crimes affiliated with international crime syndicates, we have arrested Zheng Rongjing, the subject of an Interpol Notice, at the request of NCB-Interpol Beijing," the Secretary of NCB-Interpol Indonesia, Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko, informed on Friday.
The arrest began when NCB-Interpol Beijing submitted a request to NCB-Interpol Jakarta on March 5, 2026, to track and arrest Zheng Rongjing, suspected of being a major player in online fraud.
"The subject is known to be one of the fugitives on Interpol Beijing's most wanted list. His activities involved carrying out an online scam operation at one of the largest compounds in Cambodia," Widyatmoko conveyed.
Investigation found Zheng to have entered Indonesian territory on Wednesday (June 24) at 11:50 p.m. on AirAsia flight QZ-475 and landed at Terminal 2 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
Shortly after landing, early Thursday morning, Zheng was immediately arrested by the NCB-Interpol Indonesia Secretariat team, with assistance from the Directorate General of Immigration.
"This arrest was made through collaboration and cooperation with Immigration. We subsequently detained the subject at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters," Widyatmoko said.
Following the arrest, the NCB-Interpol Indonesia team questioned Zheng to determine the purpose of his visit and his intended destination in Indonesia.
"The arrival of a major online fraud suspect in Indonesia suggests there may be individuals here prepared to assist him, along with the necessary infrastructure," the police noted.
Zheng will then be handed over to the Chinese government through the appropriate transfer mechanism.
According to Widyatmoko, the arrest reflects the National Police's commitment to strengthening cross-border law enforcement cooperation, particularly in combating transnational organized crime and dismantling international fraud networks.
