The TCX037K flight was flying from Gatwick airport to Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands. The Boeing 757 carried 210 passengers, plus the crew, who were forced to stay overnight at hotels in Faro.
A yellow alert was activated by the airports and air navigation authority, Aeroportos e Navegação Aérea (ANA), which means that both civil protection and fire departments were put on call. However, there was no need for the forces to come into action as the aircraft was under control and the passengers remained calm, not needing medical assistance.
It has been reported that Thomas Cook arranged for a new aircraft to travel from the UK today, Thursday, to collect the passengers and take them to their holiday destination. The new flight was scheduled for 5am.
