Enigmatic wing Selwyn Cobbo has broken NZ Warriors hearts, propelling the Dolphins to a scintillating 26-24 NRL win over their guests at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium.
Cobbo grabbed a try double, opening the scoring in the fourth minute, but more importantly, providing the deciding four-pointer with three minutes remaining, after the Warriors had finally taken the lead.
The Dolphins led 16-12 at halftime and scored next after the restart to extend their advantage, but the Warriors stayed in the fight and regained some momentum through a try to wing Charnze Nicoll-Kolkstad.
Back-up hooker Sam Healey subbed on for Wayde Egan and tested the defence with his speed from dummy half.
The Warriors poured on late pressure and Healey finally broke through from close range, with centre Adam Pompey slotting the conversion for a 24-20 lead.
From a short kickoff, the Dolphins roared onto attack, but a loose pass seemed to have ended their hopes. Cobbo gathered the bounce and found a pathway through the wrongfooted defence to level the scores.
Kiwis wing Jamayne Isaako, who also had a try double, slotted the conversion from wide out to snatch the advantage back and the Dolphins held out a late big from the Warriors to secure their eighth straight win.
The home side lost star playmaker Isaiyah Katoa to a wrist injury during the first half, but former Warriors half Kodi Nikorima stepped up to direct his current team to victory.
The Warriors also lost wing Dallin Watene-Zelezniak to a hamstring twinge in his 100th game for the club and were forced to shuffle their backline over the closing stages.
They now enjoy a bye week and the opportunity to welcome back several injured players against Wests Tigers in two weeks.
