
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday said he was speaking, not only as the country’s leader but also “as a father,” as he called for stronger efforts to protect the Filipino children.
He made the appeal following the recent tragedies involving students.
According to Marcos, no parent should have to fear sending their child to school or worry that they might not return home safely.

“Today, I speak not only as president, but also as a father, as a fellow Filipino, and as someone who is deeply concerned about the safety of our children,” the chief executive said in his latest vlog.

The president cited the fatal shooting involving students in Tacloban City, two separate stabbings inside schools in Cavite, and the drowning of two student-athletes during a team-building activity.
He said the series of incidents underscore the need to protect the youth from violence, negligence, and other dangers.
He urged parents, schools, government agencies and communities to work together to ensure the children’s safety.
The president directed the Department of Education, Department of Health, Philippine National Police, and local government units to strengthen measures to safeguard students nationwide.

“As a society, we need to restore the value we place on human life and reinforce the teaching of proper conduct, good values, and sound thinking, more than any lecture taught in classrooms,” he said.
Addressing students directly, Marcos reminded them that seeking help is not a sign of weakness.

“Your lives matter. What you are going through matters. And asking for help is never a sign of weakness,” he said.
“For the true strength of our nation lies in the safety, welfare, and dreams of the next generation,” the president noted. /apl
