1 dead, 1 injured in Laguna road mishap

LUCENA CITY — A female motorcycle passenger was killed, while the driver was injured in a road accident on Friday, June 26, in Cabuyao City, Laguna.

In a report released on Saturday, the Police Regional Office 4A said the motorcycle, driven by a 33-year-old man identified only by the alias “Rex,” was struck by a truck driven by a man identified as “Robert.”

The crash happened along a section of a highway in Barangay Sala at 11:10 a.m.

Rex and his passenger, identified only as “Norlyn,” sustained serious injuries in the collision.

Norlyn died at the scene, while Rex was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The truck driver was taken into police custody as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police report did not indicate whether the motorcycle driver and his passenger were wearing protective helmets, as required under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009. /apl
