Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transportation has said that the government-borne value-added tax (VAT DTP) policy for domestic economy-class air tickets is aimed at maintaining public purchasing power during the school holiday period.
Director General of Air Transportation at the ministry, Lukman F. Laisa, said the policy covers VAT on the base fare and fuel surcharge for domestic economy-class flights.
"The VAT DTP policy for economy-class air tickets during the school holiday period has been running well as part of the government's effort to maintain public purchasing power and support national mobility," Laisa said here on Saturday.
VAT DTP applies to ticket purchases made from the effective date of the regulation until July 5, 2026, with the travel period set from June 24 to July 5, 2026.
The incentive is one of the government’s measures to provide a stimulus so that the public can travel by air at lower costs during the holiday period.
"Thus, people have greater flexibility in managing their travel expenses and other needs," he said.
It is expected to support smooth public mobility during the school holiday period, strengthen inter-regional connectivity, and provide a positive impact on tourism and the national economy.
"We urge the public to take advantage of this program during the designated period. The government will continue to maintain a balance between affordable air transport services, airline business sustainability, and aspects of aviation safety, security, and service quality," Laisa ensured.
Moreover, his side also carries out intensive supervision of air transport operators’ compliance with the VAT DTP policy.
If violations are found during implementation, the ministry will take enforcement action in accordance with laws, including administrative sanctions against airlines that fail to comply.
