Jolly Jump water park has reopened for the summer despite still awaiting both planning permission and the necessary licence to operate its food and beverage outlets.
The inflatable water park at the Kordin National Hockey Centre is currently operating while its Planning Authority application remains at the screening stage, Times of Malta has reported.
The application covers the temporary installation of water attractions, tents, kiosks, synthetic turf, temporary bathrooms and a bar and restaurant between June and September.
The park also appears to be operating its catering facilities without an MTA licence. In its response to the planning application, the Malta Tourism Authority stated that the operator must apply for an operational catering licence if planning permission is granted.
The issue comes just days after Jolly Jump was thrust into the spotlight when a woman claimed she suffered serious injuries on one of its slides last summer, saying she broke both feet and required surgery.
The park responded by insisting that safety remains its top priority and noted that thousands of visitors have used its attractions without incident.
Jolly Jump, which reopened earlier this week, advertises itself as Malta’s first inflatable water park, featuring water slides, obstacle courses, pools and food stalls.
