
PAGADIAN CITY, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR, Philippines — The Philippine Army’s Task Force Zamboanga (TFZ) turned over eight surrendered loose firearms to Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso on Friday, June 26, highlighting the city’s continuing campaign for peace and public safety.
The ceremonial turnover, held at the City Hall conference room, was facilitated by the TFZ’s newly activated East Coast Task Unit which spearheads coordinated inter-agency security operations along the city’s eastern coast.
The surrendered weapons included .30-caliber bolt-action rifles, a .30-caliber Saginaw rifle, 12-gauge shotguns, and caliber .357 Magnum revolvers.

Authorities emphasized that their removal from circulation reduces the risk of armed violence and strengthens community safety.

Olaso commended Task Force Zamboanga, led by its acting commander, Col. Manaros Boransing II, for its relentless efforts in promoting peace and security.

He also acknowledged the anti-crime initiatives of the Zamboanga City Police Office under Col. Fidel Fortaleza Jr.
The City Government provided each surrenderer with a sack of rice, assorted grocery items, and P5,000 in financial assistance in recognition of their cooperation.

Olaso also assured that the city will help the surrenderers and their families access government programs on education, livelihood, and social assistance to improve their economic opportunities.

Boransing told the Inquirer that they plan to recommend to the City Peace and Order Council the establishment of a city government-led Small Arms and Light Weapons Management Program. The proposed initiative will provide a coordinated framework for the accounting, voluntary surrender, recovery, and proper disposition of loose and unregistered firearms.
Boransing stressed that every firearm surrendered reduces the threat of violence, highlighting that peace and security remain a shared responsibility among government, security forces, and local communities. /cb
