TUGUEGARAO CITY — The mother of a newborn baby who was abandoned inside a bag in Sitio Khefa, Barangay Samoki, Bontoc, Mountain Province, on the evening of June 25 has come forward, the Bontoc local government announced on Saturday, June 27.
According to the municipal government, the mother, who was described as remorseful and emotional, is now receiving medical care at a government hospital together with her newborn. Both are also being provided assistance by local authorities.
“In line with the protection of her privacy and the welfare of both the mother and the child, we respectfully ask everyone to refrain from sharing or speculating about personal information related to the case,” the local government said in an advisory.

Earlier, the municipal government appealed to the public to help locate the mother, saying the baby needed breast milk.
“Let us continue to uphold compassion, understanding, and respect during this time,” the advisory added.
Bontoc officials thanked everyone who responded to the appeal by sharing information and expressing concern for the newborn, saying public cooperation “greatly contributed” to the mother’s decision to come forward.
In its earlier appeal, the local government urged the public to respond with empathy rather than condemnation.

“Times like these call for our highest humanity, not our harshest judgments. We do not know the depth of the struggle, fear, or desperation that led to this situation. Instead of casting stones or speculating, let us wrap this innocent child — and the mother — in thoughts of safety, empathy, and love. Please keep the comment section a space of support, decency, and prayers rather than negativity,” it said.
Residents also expressed sympathy for the mother.
