Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Transmigration Ministry put an effort to establish thousands of new economic growth centers across nation through Patriot Transmigration programme, providing young generation opportunity to participate in the development of transmigration areas.
Transmigration Minister M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara said Indonesia's future development cannot depend solely on established government or economic centers, but also involve new growth centers throughout the country.
"The future of Indonesia will not be built only from Jakarta, but also it will be built from thousands of new growth centers spread across the country," Suryanagara remarked in a statement on Sunday.
Transmigration programme has now been successfully expanded transmigration areas into 1,567 definitive villages, 466 sub-district capitals, 116 district capitals, and three provincial capitals.
However, he highlighted the challenges posed by inequalities in opportunities for promoting regional development and realising the region’s potential, including that of the local workforce.
"The greatest inequality we face today is not income inequality, but opportunity inequality," he added.

Therefore, Patriot Transmigration programme is designed to expand the distribution of talent, knowledge, technology, and access to progress in developing regional potential and local human resources.
Suryanagara then invited universities to actively participate in the programme, one way being by becoming a member of the Patriot Expedition Team (TEP), allowing their expertise to be applied beyond campuses in creating prosperity for communities.
He then addressed current paradigm of transmigration must shift from population relocation to transfer of knowledge, technology, and talent.
He also underlined the importance of collaboration between universities, which generate knowledge, innovation, and talent, and the Transmigration Ministry, which provides a platform to apply research, implement innovations, and enable young talents to deliver tangible benefits to society.
"We want to bring knowledge, bring campuses closer to the community, and make transmigration areas living laboratories for Indonesian development," Suryanagara said.
