Indonesia expressed its deepest condolences to the government and the people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela following the devastating earthquake on Wednesday, June 24, which resulted in thousands of fatalities.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives and all those affected by the tragedy," Indonesia's Foreign Ministry stated on its social media on Saturday, June 27.
The government of Indonesia stands in solidarity with the government and the people of Venezuela as they recover from the earthquake, the ministry said, while acknowledging that it has caused extensive infrastructure damage and significant casualties.
"We remain confident in the strength and resilience of the people of Venezuela to rebuild and recover in the challenging days ahead," the Foreign Ministry remarked.
A rare double earthquake with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 rattled the northern coast of Venezuela on Wednesday, marking the strongest tremors recorded in the country in the last 125 years.
As of Saturday, the death toll from the earthquake has risen to 1,430, with another 3,238 injured, National Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodriguez said, as reported by Sputnik.
President Delcy Rodriguez has declared a national emergency following the earthquake, which severely affected several regions, including La Guaira and Caracas.
Meanwhile, the international community began mobilizing assistance in solidarity with the disaster-stricken country, including from the United States and Russia.
Indonesia's National SAR Agency (Basarnas) also expressed its readiness to be deployed to Venezuela, with its Operations Director, Edy Prakoso, on Thursday, June 25, highlighting the agency's experience in conducting earthquake rescue missions in Turkiye and Myanmar.
"Basarnas stands ready if instructed to help rescue earthquake victims in Venezuela, subject to decisions from the central government," Prakoso said.
